The team was able to bag 1 gold and 4 silver medals but the importance of the said event/tournament is not to gather all the medals and beat their competitors, but to encourage and develop the young athletes the highest value of sportsmanship, dedication and competitiveness. The novice meet is the doorway to a higher level of tournaments. These novice Aqua Phantom Warriors swimmers are the fresh graduates of last summer’s learn-to-swim program, who enjoy and want the higher level, which is competitive swimming. They spent the remaining of their summer training/practicing and enjoying the art of disciplining themselves, focusing their minds to be well-tuned athletes. |

| Unfortunately, the following swimmers were not able to compete due to a sudden fever. Name Age DUMATO, Narjana 7 GANDOLLAS, Angelika 10 NORIEGA, Therese Ma. Dulce 8 Although these young athletes were not able to experience the novice meet, they are being trained for the next possible swimming meet. With the help and support of the swimmer’s parents, inspirations and commitments from their teammates and encouragements and perseverance of yours truly…these young athletes will achieve their personal goal, to beat their selves and become winners!
It is simple to analyze the main purpose of an individual sport. But some of the coaches motivate their athletes the wrong way, telling their athletes to beat their opponents. Winning is to have all the gold and having the Most Outstanding swimmer’s trophy or be in the list of the fastest swimmers around… Winning is about beating the best in you, beating your personal best, and knowing that you have been faster and stronger and more precise in doing the things you love most. It is not beating the swimmers on the next lane, or beating the other teams, or beating the reigning fastest swimmer in your age group or level… It is all about beating the athlete within you. Proving that the athlete within you is the only worthy opponent. And by doing so, the athlete can perform well and can achieve what they dream of, and the other competitors in your age group or level, are actually your allies to become a better swimmer. The main purpose of the swimming, (in my point of view) is to encourage the swimmers to develop their skill and to be in the competitive level and at the same time eliminate the competition among them that causes rivalry and conflict. Unlike other sports, winning is not about knocking your opponents, or by outscoring them… in swimming and some of the individual sports, winning is about beating the best in you. Showing that you can improve you skill to the level of competitiveness but not to the expense of others defeat. |
